Creating a 3D
Scanning Guide
for Art

Given the lack of French-language documentation on 3D scanning for works of art, Québec’s ministry of culture and communications commissioned the MNBAQ to explore this technology and develop a guide for all cultural and heritage institutions.

A multidisciplinary team of photography and museology professionals from the MNBAQ spent a year exploring the possibilities that 3D scanning offers museums.

Their research, discussions, and experiments resulted in a detailed practical guide. It provides tools for cultural organizations that want to explore this technology themselves, regardless of what their collections entail.

We used works from the MNBAQ collections during our many 3D scanning tests. Look through this album to see them from every angle! Take a look at our Sketchfab page as well.
