An echo of Niki de Saint Phalle’s world

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Niki de Saint Phalle. The 1980s and 1990s: Art Unleashed, this full show of pieces by the Margie Gillis Dance Foundation echoes the artist’s bold, feminist world. Through dance, it celebrates freedom of expression, the creative power of women, and their deep connection with the world.

It will include a new solo by Margie Gillis, Remembered Premonitions, with original music by Niko Friesen.

The Whole Bloomin’ Thing

In the second half of the program, dancers from the Legacy Project will perform The Whole Bloomin’ Thing. This performance is inspired by James Joyce, particularly his seminal work, Ulysses. It dives into the private thoughts of Molly Bloom, the eponymous character, as she ponders her environment, her social relationships, her partner, and the intellectual Stephen. The story weaves a tale of a woman deeply rooted in the natural world, triumphing despite the complexities of her life in a vibrant celebration of affirmation.

Through the Legacy Project, Margie Gillis is ensuring that her legacy is not just preserved, but also alive—continuing to evolve, grow, and shape the future of dance. Every step on stage is another stride towards the dance scene of the future.
